RAYNET: Resilient communications for all agencies when it matters most.
RAYNET has been established for over 60 years, born from the need to supply critical communications in a disaster and still providing services where communications are overloaded or non-existent today. Although technology has changed radically, so too have the threats and vulnerabilities to the communications the public takes for granted.
East Lancashire RAYNET was re-formed in 2018, to meet the needs of post 9/11 emergency planners, now commonly termed Civil Contingencies Teams. Regularly training alongside emergency agencies, we can provide resilient communication networks to cover small or large areas, and with both voice and data capabilities.
RAYNET is not designed to assume the mantle of responsibility from the statutory responders, but provides alternative solutions, interconnectivity and flexibility to provide resilience in an emergency.
Drawn largely from radio amateurs and using the amateur radio callsign G0ELR, we are permitted within our licences to operate in an emergency or properly constituted exercise for the following "User Services”:-
Police, Fire and Ambulance Services
St John Ambulance
British Red Cross Society
RVS (Royal Voluntary Service)
Emergency Planning Officers
Local Health Authority
RAYNET is a national organisation and has full coverage over the North West of England on a Regional, County and Local District basis.
